Refresh your home for the upcoming spring season! After spending so much time inside during the winter, a thorough spring clean is the best way to welcome the upcoming sunshine and warmer temperatures.
Cleaning Tools You’ll Need
Before you can start tackling your spring cleaning checklist, you’ll want to gather all the necessary cleaning tools.
- Vacuum
- Microfiber cloths
- Broom and dustpan
- Mop
- Bucket
- Sponges
- Duster
- Paper towels
- Cleaning brushes
- Toilet bowl brush
You’ll also want to get any cleaning sprays and solutions you like to use (such as dish soap, a multi-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, disinfectant, toilet bowl cleaner, bathroom cleaner, stainless steel cleaner, and anything else).
Kitchen
Declutter:
- Store any holiday entertaining items you will use in the future.
- Get rid of anything that needs to go! Toss broken dishware, duplicate kitchen tools, and items you don’t use.
Clean:
- Clean out your fridge and freezer. Be sure to throw out any expired condiments or food items, remove any built-up grime, and clean your water and ice dispenser areas.
- Clean your cabinets, vacuum any crumbs out of drawers, and wipe down cabinet and drawer fronts.
- Clean your appliances, including coffee maker, toaster, oven, and microwave.
- Clean your vent hood screens.
- Wash your garbage can and recycling bin.
- Clean out your garbage disposal and do a deep-clean of your sink.
- Clean any smudges on walls and wipe down your light fixtures.
Bathroom
Declutter:
- Declutter under-sink cabinets and medicine cabinets.
- Discard any expired or unused products.
Clean:
- Thoroughly clean the bathtub interior and shower, including the showerhead. Take time to rinse off shampoo, conditioner, and other containers and replace rags and loofahs, as needed.
- Wash or replace your shower curtain liner.
- Clean the toilet thoroughly. Clean trash cans.
- Mop floors. Clean any smudges on walls and wipe down your light fixtures.
Bedroom (and Closet)
Declutter:
- Put out-of-season clothing in storage.
- Declutter seasonal clothes and shoes that weren’t worn during the colder months.
- Donate any clothes you no longer wear.
Clean:
- Wash throw pillows and/or covers. Wash duvet cover, comforter, blankets, etc.
- Dust and clean the headboard.
- Vacuum mattress.
- Polish wooden furniture.
- Clean closet floor and under furniture.
Living Areas
Declutter:
- Store extra blankets.
- Refresh or rotate your decor.
Clean:
- Wash throw pillows and/or covers. Wash blankets.
- Spot-clean carpets and upholstery.
- Vacuum upholstery, including beneath cushions.
- Rotate furniture cushions as applicable.
- Clean and polish leather furniture. Polish wood furniture.
- Clean under furniture.
All Around the House
Clean:
- Wash throw rugs.
- Clean and disinfect light switches. Wipe down light fixtures.
- Wipe down doors and door handles.
- Clean baseboards and walls.
- Dust the tops of doors and window frames.
- Clean blinds or other window coverings and/or wash curtains. Wash windows and screens.
- Touch-up paint where needed.
- Re-pot plants as needed.
Outdoor Areas
Clean:
- Wash front and back doors.
- Shake out doormats.
- Clean entry areas.
- Clean walkways.
- Clean outdoor cushions and furniture.
Seasonal Maintenance
- Check HVAC filters and replace them if needed.
- Check fridge filters.
- Check fire alarm batteries.
